GP+

GP+ (GP Plus) is a training programme where GPs can apply to develop their knowledge within a specialist interest whilst maintaining general practice skills.

GP+ programme requires a minimum commitment of 12 months, ideally on a full time basis but with a minimum requirement of 6 sessions per week (between clinical and training).

For a full time GP, approximately 5 sessions per week to be spent in the Practice. This will be planned with the Practice at the beginning of the placement to ensure that the needs of the Practice and the other element of the role are met.

The remaining 4 sessions are allocated to the specialist interest and any associated training/courses. These sessions are protected to undertake clinical observational placements, taught education sessions and clinical sessions.

A study budget will be agreed at the outset of the programme to meet the agreed outcomes support the development of the specialist interest.

A GP Mentor will be identified for GP undertaking the programme.

  • Practice based Logins for IT systems and access to local intranet for private study and reference
  • Commitment from the whole practice team to support the GP+ programme
  • Commitment from the Primary and Community Care Academy to identify a GP Mentor
  • Commitment from the localities to fund agreed specialist interest education/training

What training will you receive?

Training packages will vary dependent on the programme, but most would include peer support, mentorship, training within the Health Board and external training.

Your GP mentor will provide a broad range of advice in terms of professional development, support to settle into the GP placement and area of specialist interest and into working and living in North Wales.

What is the Salary?

£9,000 per session.

Will my indemnity be covered?

The GP+ programme will be covered for the work associated with the delivery of the GMS contract in the hosting GP Practice and in the provision of the work associated with the area of Specialist Interest if it is the responsibility of the Health Board to provide this service.
