Our Research

The Academy recognises the value of research and evaluation and has embedded it within the schemes we undertake.

Some of the research and evaluation undertaken in the Academy includes;

  • Develop, test and evaluate pilot projects and workstreams in the Academy, embed evaluation, audit and research into the schemes.
  • Extend the knowledge-base in prudent primary and community healthcare, and the multidisciplinary social model of care.
  • Provide support for colleagues and practitioners interested in research and innovation.
  • Support clinical research in health board practices in North Wales.

The Academy has developed the 9P Impact Evaluation Model, used as a foundation for research and evaluation undertaken across all programmes;

  • Patients -  patient outcomes and patient experience
  • Profession - the unique skills each profession brings to primary care
  • [personal] Practice - building a primary care specific skillset to complement existing knowledge
  • Peers - mentorship, supervision, peer-to-peer and inter-professional development
  • Partners - partnership working for optimal outcomes
  • Primary Care - impact on primary care operationally, and in terms of education/training needs and workforce requirements
  • Performance - demonstrable performance measures, defined at the outset
  • Public Pound - consider whole system benefits
  • Publication Strategy - comprehensive and robust evaluation and research, shared nationally and internationally

Benefits Realisation Framework

Our team recognise the importance of demonstrating the value of the investment the Academy programme has received.

We’ve developed a comprehensive Benefits Realisation Framework (BRF) to evidence key outcomes and benefits.

The team initially wrote a framework based on the Logic Model, and subsequently worked with an external organisation to refine and formalise the BRF and reporting dashboard.

The BRF is aligned to our four key work streams;

  • Recruitment and retention
  • Skills Education and Training (SETs)
  • Training Hubs
  • Clinical research

It is still early days for our BRF, but we look forward to sharing the findings, outcomes and good news stories in publications, and presentations at national and international conferences.
