Apprenticeship Qualifications
Apprenticeships are a route to learn whilst working, gaining a qualification, job specific skills to become a competent member of the workplace.
These courses will support the learner to undertake training either within a clinical or administrative setting typically taking 12 - 15 months.

What are Essential Skills?
Essential Skills qualifications develop learners’ knowledge and understanding of Application of Number (Numeracy), Communication (Literacy) and Digital Literacy.
These qualifications enable learners to demonstrate that they can apply these vital skills to a range of situations whilst at work, in learning and throughout life.
The Essential Skills qualifications are an essential component within all the Apprenticeship Qualifications. This requirement will be discussed with each individual learner at the start of the application process. It may in some instances, depending on your previous role, qualifications and experience, attainment of these or equivalent learning can be evidenced.
How are the courses delivered?
All programmes will be delivered locally through Llandrillo or Cambria College. The location will be clarified following attendance at the awareness sessions.
How do I apply?
For the majority of clinical and non-clinical apprenticeship qualifications, completion of an Expression of Interest form is required. These programmes commence throughout the year. Please contact BCU.Academy@wales.nhs.uk for further information or an application form.
For the ILM courses attendance on the awareness session and completion of an application form is required. These courses tend to commence March and September each year. Please contact BCU.Academy@wales.nhs.uk for further information or an application form.
On completion of the apprenticeship, you will achieve the following:
- Diploma Apprenticeship in chosen subject i.e. Clinical HealthCare Support (Wales) or Primary Care Administration and Reception Diploma
- Essential Skills - Application of Number (AON) Level 2*
- Essential Skills - Communication Level 2*
- Essential Skills – Digital Literacy Level L1
- Prentis-iaith Welsh Language Development
